Aspen Country Cottage – Restaurant Review
I was on my annual Father’s Day weekend motorcycle ride, and I rolled into Victor, looking for some lunch. As I was entering town, I saw a guy (who looked like a local) coming out of an antique shop with his dog, so I stopped and asked him where I could get a good lunch.
After calling his dog off (I think it wanted to eat ME for lunch!), he kindly directed me to Aspen Country Cottage.
Basically, the place is a convenience/grocery store, that also has other things(like movie rentals). In the back, there is about a half dozen tables. I took a seat.
It’s obviously a family owned place – there were at least three generations of people running the store(including very young children playing with a pricing gun). The daughter of the owner (I think) brought me a menu and took my drink order (I got lemonade, which was great).
They had some pretty normal stuff on the menu mostly burgers with different fixings, and they also had a deli section, for fresh sandwiches. One thing jumped out at me though – something called “Frito Pie”.
The Frito pie turned out to be a lot of salad stuff – lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, onions, thrown over a base of taco seasoned beef and Fritos! All of this was topped with a generous scoop of salsa and sour cream. The Fritos underneath weren’t the wimpy Fritos you get normally – they were big thick Fritos! I mixed it all together and dug in; it tasted awesome!
The potatoes were good too – they were basically chopped up potatoes cooked on a grill, and served very lightly peppered. I doused my with salt and ketchup, and loved ’em.
Overall, I really enjoyed my meal. The entire place was very clean and well kept (bathroom too). The owners obviously take a lot of pride in running their shop, and it shows.
